Dental Sealants
A thin protective coating over the deep grooves of your back teeth, where toothbrush bristles simply can’t reach.

Simple Protection
Where Most Decay Actually Starts
The chewing surfaces of your molars and premolars aren’t flat — they’re full of narrow pits and fissures. More than three quarters of tooth decay begins in these grooves, because toothbrush bristles are physically too large to clean inside them.
A sealant is a thin, tooth-coloured coating painted into those grooves. It forms a smooth barrier that food and bacteria can’t settle into, making the surface far easier to keep clean.
Sealants Aren’t Only for Children
Adults benefit too, particularly if you have deep grooves that have never decayed, a history of cavities, or dry mouth from medication. We’ll check whether your back teeth are good candidates during your exam.
What to Expect
Application takes only a few minutes per tooth and involves no drilling and no numbing. We clean the tooth, condition the surface, paint on the sealant, and harden it with a curing light. We check the sealants at each future visit and can repair them easily if they wear.

Quick and Painless
- No drilling and no anaesthetic needed
- A few minutes per tooth
- Checked and maintained at every visit
- Useful for adults, not just children

Do adults really need sealants?
Some do. If you have deep, healthy grooves in your back teeth, a history of decay, or dry mouth from medications, sealants are a sensible, inexpensive protection. We’ll tell you honestly whether they’d help in your case.
How long do sealants last?
Several years, often longer, though they can wear with heavy chewing. We check them at each visit and can top them up quickly if needed. Avoiding ice, hard candy and sticky sweets helps them last.
